THE COLONIAL SECRETARY IN THE NOR'-WEST.

ROEBOURNE AND COSSACK.

Port Hedland, June 10.

At the banquet given in Roebourne to the Colonial Secretary. Mr. Hall, the Mayor of Cossack, advocated the construction of a tramline between Cossack and Point Samson, as soon as the jetty at the latter was completed. The jetty now in course of construction was for stock shipment purposes, but facilities for cargo should, he said, also be afforded. A railway system should be provided, designed to connect eventually with the capital of the State.

The Minister, in replying to the various requests put before him, said no speaker had pointed out where the proposed railway was to begin and where it was to end. It was usual to have some terminal point decided upon.

The jetty at Point Samson had yet to justify its construction, but no doubt it would, and when that took place, the construction of a tramway would doubtless follow.
