The Koombana Strikers

Leaders Punished

Perth, December 16.

Arising from the recent trouble among the crew of the Koombana, the Fremantle Union decided to suspend two men, regarded as instigators, for 6 months, and fined each of them 6.

The effect of the penalty is that the men will not be able to secure a berth in any of the boats run by the Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Federation during the suspension period.

Steps have also been taken to punish the rest of the crew despatched by the Union from Adelaide, who refused duty on arrival here, but excluding them for the time being from employment on the Australian coastal boats.

The General Secretary of the Union in the Eastern States has communicated with McShearer, at Fremantle, expressing appreciation of the manner in which he labored to bring about termination of the trouble.
