THE LOSS OF THE KOOMBANA

To the Editor.

Sir,--One hears many opinions expressed as to how the s.s. Koombana met her fate. Some are of opinion that the boat was top-heavy. Then again it is said she ran on the reef at Bedout Island. Could not the wreck be located and divers sent down to ascertain the cause? In my opinion, owing to the small smount of wreckage found, the Koombana has turned over and is lying side on the bottom, and like the s.s. Pericles, in fairly shallow water. I think it would be a fair proposition to offer a reward or engage a lugger or two from Port Hedland to try to locate the wreck. The Government and the Adelaide Steamship Company would, I feel sure, share the expense. Trusting the matter will be taken up.--Yours, etc., J.C.
