ETHERGRAPHS FOR OCEAN VESSELS.
The Paris "Matin" states that M. Cruppi, the French Minister for the Post and Telegraph Department, is going to introduce a bill into the Chamber of Deputies making it compulsory to instal ethergraphs (or wireless telegraphic appliances) in all the mail steamers leaving France for distant shores. The value of such installations was very strikingly shown in the case of the Republic collision last week. All the crew and passengers of that vessel were saved by the use of the ethergraph. A bill has also been introduced into the United States Congress to make it compulsory for all ocean-going vessels to carry an ethergraph plant.
notes:
Within days of the Republic rescue, the French government also took steps to require wireless telegraphy apparatus on some ships.
