ROMAN CATHOLIC.
The Beagle Bay Mission.—Bishop Gibney waited on the Premier on Tuesday with the view to securing the title to the 10,000 acres of land which he was promised some years ago on certain conditions, to be held in trust for the aboriginals at Beagle Bay. The Bishop gave a very favourable account of the work of the mission. The Premier, in replying, stated that Bishop Gibney ought to apply to the Lands Department on the subject, and this his Lordship promised to do on the following day. Speaking subsequently to one of our reporters on the subject, the Premier stated that there seemed to be no difficulty br the way of keeping the promise made several years ago, except that the land had not yet been surveyed.
AB notes:
Gibney’s urgency was understandable; on tue 29 jan 1901, John Forrest was still Premier of Western Australia,
but he resigned just two weeks later (15 feb 1901) to contest the new Federal seat of Swan.
