BITS FROM BROOME

A. G. Russell's Great Pearl

(By "The Blister.")

I sent you a wire with regard to the great pearl which was brought in here by Charlie Lenton, shell-opener for A. G. Russell. It was in a blister which weighed 308 grains when chipped oil the shell. An offer of £1000 for half share in it was made before it was opened, but the owner decided to have all, good or bad.

Pearlers say it is the largest and most perfect round pearl ever obtained in the Nor'-West. Two or three bigger ones have been got, but not round --which is the most rare and most valuable. This pearl is as round as a marble, with a beautiful lustre, and will be worth thousands of pounds when the war is over and the market recovers, but at present it is unsaleable at any decent figure.
