In many towns in the northern part of Australia the keen competition set going by the colored men (whose devious ways enable them to obtain goods without paying duty, and whose mode of living is far below the whiteman's standard,) has reached a point at which Australians whose patriotism means more to them than pelf, should stop and ponder--where is this going to end? The white laborer has been pushed out of employment in unloading from the ships; colored labor handles the cargo until it reaches the consignees door; Japanese carpenters have refused to work at a job on which a white man was employed; colored cooks rule at all the hotels--owners dare not get in a white cook: there would be a strike--and colored men do all the washing, sly-grog selling, conduct all the gambling saloons and run all the brothels. They started at the lowest "game" in history and have spread their octopus-like proclivities until they are now in a position to crush out white business-men by unfair competition. Not all the whites who have to live in places like Port Darwin, Wyndham, Broome or Hedland are color-serving, crawlsome creatures, who care nothing for the future of our young nation. There are many who would hail with delight Federal legislation which would put down this unfair competition and keep out all of the colored and inferior races.
